Día de Muertos is a vibrant tradition where many cultures honor their departed loved ones and celebrate their memory. During the autumn break, we decorate the museum and celebrate Día de Muertos with a variety of activities for both children and adults.

This autumn festival is dedicated to the dead with a grand, colorful Noche de Muertos (Night of the Dead). Tania Naranjo brings a rhythmic five-piece band, DJ Camila Astorga Díaz raises the pulse in a decorated house with bars, dancing, a lecture, and much more. An altar called an ofrenda will be created by the Mexican Association, and the dead are invited to the offering table and the celebration!

Who do you miss? Come and create a nicho – a memory box for someone you miss or want to honor. As part of the Día de Muertos tradition, memory boxes called nichos are decorated to remember and honor someone who has passed away.

Katia Ibarra, an artist from Mexico, helps us create handmade skull masks out of papier-mâché (newspaper and glue).
