The Clandestine Insurgent Rebel Clown Army (CIRCA) is a group that uses the aesthetics and methods of a clown in their actions. They usually turn up at manifestations and demonstrations in Europe and the USA. Meet them at the exhibition "Take Action! 83 Ways to Change the World" Photographer: Ian Teh
How would you like to change the world? The question is at the very heart of three new exhibitions and a variety of programmes displayed at the Museum of World Culture the forthcoming spring. Don't miss the grand opening of the season on 17th January 2008 when all the new exhibitions will be inaugurated. As usual there will be programmes with seminars, films and performances for our visitors who choose to visit us on several occasions a week.
Take Action! 83 Ways to Change the World
What is your stance in the world debate? "Take Action! 83 Ways to Change the World", is about individuals who occupy land, refuse to follow orders blindly, create armies of clowns, crochet their own Gucci bags or start up their own banks. It is about people who ask questions and fight for a better world. About individuals who sacrifice their own lives for others.
How would you like to change the world? This exhibition presents at least 83 examples of what others have accomplished. How would you like to leave your mark? Would you like to cultivate hope with seed bombs? Chop up a piece of IKEA furniture? Publish a fanzine? Put together your very own Do-It-Yourself-kit and take it home with you. Then it is simply a matter of getting started!
Wild Style
How could a movement that began in the Bronx with a group of 100 children assume a global identity? The photo exhibition "Wild Style" takes us on a journey back in time to the roots of Hip hop, to the beginning of it all. This is an exhibition for the inveterate as well as for the inquisitive. For those who are already familiar with the history and for those who would like to learn something completely new. Among the images are famous names such as Fab 5 Freddy, Rocky Steady Crew and Debbie Harry.
Charlie Ahearn took the photographs during the preparatory work for the film "Wild Style" and will be visiting the museum in connection with the launching of the exhibition.
Traces of Congo
What role did the Nordic countries play in the brutally atrocious exploitation of the Congo at the end of the 19th century? With the help of original objects and artefacts, photographs, films, soundtracks and music the exhibition renders an account of the relations between the Nordic countries and the Congo. About Nordic nationals who actively participated in the colonisation and about Nordic nationals who from an early stage took a stance against, voicing criticism of that terrible chapter in history. The exhibition tells a tale of armies, seafarers, missionaries and buccaneers. What were Nordic nationals doing in the Congo for 130 years? What trail have they left behind?
Renew your thoughts twice a year
Where are the boundaries? Where is home exactly? How do you feel about the fact that others do not agree with your way of thinking? Every year in January and September the Museum of World Culture opens its new exhibitions. Don't miss the opening of the seasons!
